Netflix has officially announced the renewal of “Squid Game” for a second season, following the massive success of its first installment. The news was shared through a tweet featuring an animation of the iconic animatronic doll from the series. The creator, writer, director, and executive producer Hwang Dong-Hyuk also released a statement expressing gratitude to fans worldwide. Hwang teased some details about the second season, confirming the return of characters such as Gi-hun and the front man. He also hinted at the introduction of new characters, including Young-hee’s boyfriend, Cheol-su. With the first season becoming Netflix’s most-watched series, the anticipation for the sequel is already high. The statement indicates that the new episodes are expected to premiere in late 2023 or early 2024. Netflix’s co-CEO Ted Sarandos had previously hinted at additional episodes and a new season in January, reinforcing the inevitable continuation of the wildly popular Korean series. The Emmy season is currently underway, with “Squid Game” positioned as a strong contender after its critical acclaim and commercial success. Fans eagerly await the return of the intense and gripping series.
