PlayStation 5 Sales Exceed 50 Million Units

Sony announced on Wednesday that PlayStation 5 (PS5) sales have hit 50 million units since its late 2020 launch, marking a significant increase from the 40 million units reported in July. This surge is attributed to improved PS5 availability following earlier supply chain challenges.

Jim Ryan, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s President and CEO, expressed gratitude to players, emphasizing that this holiday season marks the first time since launch that a full supply of PS5 consoles is available.

Achieving the 50 million mark slightly slower than the PS4, the PS5 demonstrates robust sales despite supply constraints. Ampere Analysis data indicates a 65 percent growth in PlayStation sales to 22.5 million units this year, outpacing declines in Switch and Xbox sales by 18 percent and 15 percent, respectively. This positions Sony favorably to meet its goal of shipping 25 million consoles by March 2024.
