Japan’s blockbuster hit, Demon Slayer: Mugen Train, continues its phenomenal success, crossing the $248 million mark in just 39 days. The anime adaptation has now become the third-highest-grossing film in Japan, surpassing Frozen. With nearly 19.4 million tickets sold, it ranks as the fourth most-attended film of all time in terms of admissions. Demon Slayer is set to expand to markets like Hong Kong and Taiwan, targeting an estimated $20 million. While holding the third position at the international box office in 2020, it stands fifth globally, with more international releases planned through Funimation in the U.S. Despite the global success of Demon Slayer, the Chinese crime drama Trapped In Time took the lead at the international box office with a $31 million debut. Gerard Butler’s Greenland also entered the Chinese market, achieving a notable performance. Amid the complexities of cinema reopenings globally, there are expectations for further relaxation of restrictions, with countries like Italy, Germany, and the UK showing potential reopening dates. Looking ahead, China anticipates strong performances from upcoming releases like One Second and The Croods: A New Age.”
